TU Summer BITS Program

July 13, 2009

The group members today gathered at the center to talk about what was going to happen today. First, was the map, we had to find how to make a better map that shows where most of the bike racks are. We want to put this on the map so that people could have a better way of locating the closest racks to where they were going. Before, we could go and just put bike racks on the map we first had to take the old map and walk around campus and find a lot of the bike racks and put them on the old map. So that when we go to make a new it will show exact was u can go to store your bike. Our reason for this is so that people will stop locking their bikes to poles and gates. After walking one block on the campus several bike racks was spotted by our group.

Hi my name is David Taylor and I am enrolled at the 2009 summer Bits program. This is my third year working here. Today started off very shaky. Our group consist of six members. When I arrived I was told that we had a new group leader until Friday. I thought it was gone be easy and we would be able to get over. Little did I know she did not play? When I finally meet up with the group we had to walk around and take pictures of all the bike racks on Temple’s campus. After we accomplished everything we got to eat lunch. After lunch each member of the group had to create a blog entry, which consisted of what we did throughout our day so far. Reply Forward Invite bike temple to chat

When I first came to work earlier today everyone wasn’t there so we went to the fourth floor and waited in room 405 for five minutes. When we left we had seen Derika. We than went outside and we all decided to walk around Temple Campus. While we were on Temple Campus we counted the bike racks that we seen all around campus. We noticed how everyone don’t park their bikes on the bike racks like for instance if you are at the Science of Engineering Building you will notice how there is only 1-2 bike racks and it only holds up about 4-8 bikes on the bike racks but on 1 separate bike rack it only holds up 3-4 bikes and if all of them are field you won’t have any where to park your bikes. And I discovered that people also park their bikes on the gates if there aren’t any more places to park your bikes. In conclusion that’s what wew did today when we walked around Temple’s Campus.

Today I came into work on time. Then we went to the 4 floor and sat down for a little bit and then we talked about what we were going to do today. When the group got outside we disgusted what we were going to do, then we got the camera and started to take pictures. We went all over the campus, we seen new bikes, old bikes, and even strange bikes. We looked at some bike racks that had bikes chained up to it, and some were regular. I seen a friend of mine that graduated from my school too. then we went to get something to eat, and walked around the campus some more and took more pictures of bikes and bike racks!

Paris Capers
Hi, my name is Paris and I am enrolled in a summer internship program called BITS. My group is called Bike Temple and there are six interns in the group. The goal for our group is to spread the word about bike ridership on and off campus and try to influence people to leave their cars at home, get on a bike and ride! We plan to do all sorts of things, for example, we will be asking people to complete a survey we created all about bikes. We are making nice progress towards our goal. So far we have taken to the streets and taken count of the nearly 500 total bike racks on campus (by hand no less). We have brainstormed numerous ideas about how to make the assignment much more exiting and interesting, and today we have created this blog- to record all of our actions, thoughts and ideas in a convenient, easy to use format. Today marks the first day of our blogging journey. So here, from Anderson Hall, I bid you farewell and hope you follow us.

Today when I came to work I couldn’t find my group so I had to go to the office. The lady in the office told me they was in the office on the 4th floor. I went to the 4th and I saw them. We all came down together so we can go outside and take pictures of all the bike racks. We all walked around temple campus to take pictures of where people lock their bikes up at. Most of the people locked their bikes up on the pole and some on the bike racks. We went to go get something to eat and after we ate we went back outside and took some more pictures of the bikes racks. When we was finished we came to Anderson Hall and got on the computers and wrote about what we did today.
